Here’s some specific tips and products to help you conquer your garage organization and make it a space in your home that works for you.

Schedule time to do the garage or it won’t happen! Arrange for a Dumpster to arrive that day or have a truck ready for dump/donation runs. Get rid of old, broken shelving and have new, durable shelving and track systems ready to install. Plan for a couple of long days. You can do this!
Start by pulling everything out and putting it in categories. You may need to lay it in your driveway or lawn. Spend time sweeping the floor (don’t miss those back corners and cobwebs!), wiping shelves, and removing broken shelving. Get rid of anything you no longer need.

Build your new shelving and install your track systems. Make sure to space your shelves so your bins fit correctly. You will want to take advantage of the wall space to get things off the floor. You can hang bikes, yard tools, strollers, hoses, skis, chairs, ladders, etc!

Once your shelves are ready, you can begin binning items. Choose bins that are durable and consistent. (We like these and these for garages.) Categorize your items and label the bins. You can place cleaners and car items in these multipurpose bins.
